Criollo arrived at Los Barrios pound in July 2025 and was about 1 year old on arrival. He is a gorgeous Malinois that was found presumably abandoned on the streets and taken to the pound.Criollo – A Truly Special Young Boy Hoping for a Future Outside the PoundThis is Criollo – a breathtakingly handsome young Malinois cross, around one year old. With his noble face, athletic build, and sweet, playful nature, he truly stands out. But what makes Criollo unforgettable isn’t just his looks – it’s his gentle soul and goofy charm. He’s obedient, affectionate, and absolutely adores receiving his ball. His joy is simple and pure: a kind word, a little attention, and time to play.Criollo has shared his cage with other dogs, and they got along beautifully. His highlight of the day is the short break in the patio, where he enjoys playing and interacting with his friends, making the most of every moment of freedom and fun. The rest of the time, more than 23 hours a day, he waits patiently in his tiny cage, dreaming of the life and love he deserves. He also loves going for walks and is perfect on the lead. Criollo walks calmly, unfazed by passing cars, dogs, or people. He has even encountered a few cats and didn’t seem bothered at all. Recently, he was lucky enough to be chosen by a volunteer for a special outing to a nearby pet shop — and he was a star! Inside the shop, he behaved impeccably: calm, gentle, and respectful, not even tempted by the treats on the shelves. He also travelled perfectly in the car, sitting quietly and enjoying the ride.Criollo is a truly stunning boy, inside and out.Criollo is just one of many… We have several young dogs at the pound who look just like him — same type, same eagerness to love — and they’ve been waiting far too long. Some have been here for months, others for years, growing up behind bars.Right now, the pound is overcrowded. Each cage holds a dog who deserves so much more than a concrete floor and metal bars. Dogs like Criollo, full of potential, longing for a family and a life outside these walls. Please don’t let Criollo grow up in the pound. Give him the chance to be what he was meant to be: a loyal friend, a joyful companion, and a beloved member of a family.OCTOBER UPDATE: Criollo was lucky to go into foster care and is doing wonderfully. He quickly settled in and loves his new routine — relaxing on the sofa, enjoying the freedom to run around in the garden, and going for walks on the beach, which he absolutely adores. After a few weeks, another dog from the pound, Quejana, joined the foster home, and the two are getting along very well. Criollo is showing what a sweet and happy boy he truly is.He is still looking for his forever home, where he can continue to enjoy the love and comfort he has discovered in foster care.Criollo is ready — he’s just waiting for you.
