Merrel arrived at Los Barrios pound in October 2025 and was about 2 years old on arrival. He is a gorgeous Crossbreed that was found presumably abandoned on the streets and taken to the pound.Merrel arrived at the pound with Yoyo and has shown himself to be a friendly and adaptable dog. While he can be a little shy at first, once he feels safe, he quickly warms up and enjoys cuddles and attention.Merrel has been integrated well with many other dogs and gets along nicely with them. Recently, he has formed a special friendship with Pili, and the two are inseparable during their daily 15-minute patio breaks, playing as much as time allows and completely focused on each other. Pili has just been reserved and will soon be going to her new home — we hope Merrel can find the same joy and companionship with a loving family very soon.Merrel, of course, loves going out for walks, although this unfortunately happens quite rarely due to the large number of dogs and the limited number of volunteers. When he is lucky enough to go out, he can be a little stressed at the beginning, which is completely understandable as he wants to take everything in. However, he settles during the walk and becomes calmer as he goes along. He does not seem bothered by the light traffic in the rural area surrounding the pound, nor by other dogs passing by. Merrel was also happy to stop for a short break to enjoy some cuddles and treats. We believe that with regular walks, this handsome boy would quickly become more relaxed and confident.Life at the pound is tough for Merrel. He spends most of his day in a small cage, longing for space to run, play, and simply be a dog. Merrel deserves a home where he can feel safe, loved, and free — a home where he can continue to share his playful spirit and gentle heart with someone special.Update – January 2026:"Merrel recently went into foster care due to heavy rainfall and the risk of flooding at the pound. He stayed in foster for a few days and is now returning to the pound.According to the foster family, Merrel is able to live with children. Inside the home, however, he was a bit unsettled and needed supervision, as he tended to grab and chew objects, especially shoes and soft toys. This is likely linked to the stress he had just experienced — the flooding risk at the pound and the sudden, rushed move into a new environment.Despite this, the foster describes Merrel as playful and very affectionate. On walks, he initially appeared quite strong and nervous, but as the walk progressed, he became calmer."This short foster stay suggests that with time, stability, and appropriate mental and physical stimulation, Merrel is likely to settle and develop more balanced behaviour in a home environment.
