Gru arrived at Los Barrios pound in October 2022 and was about 2 years old on arrival. He is a gorgeous cross breed that was found presumably abandoned in the streets and brought to the pound.Gru is a strikingly handsome boy, with captivating amber-colored eyes! He's friendly with people, adores cuddles, and savors treats. Luckily, one of the regular volunteers takes him out for walks a couple of times a week. When Gru spots the volunteer, he eagerly "calls" out and gets incredibly excited. His joy is palpable when he ventures out for walks, relishing every moment of sniffing in the grass and exploring the outside world. People, cars, and other dogs passing by don't seem to faze him much, although he does show some curiosity about horses and cats. It's heartbreaking to see Gru confined to his small cage alone. Most of the day, he's found laying in his little doghouse, gazing out as life passes by. This isn't the life any animal deserves! Gru yearns for a nurturing home environment, with experienced owners and no other dogs or cats.Update August 2025:After almost three long years at the pound – confined to a tiny cage with only minimal human contact – Gru was finally given a chance to move to a smaller, quieter shelter. Here, life is gentler, the days are calmer, and Gru is no longer quite so lonely.Since his move, he has truly blossomed. Gru now spends time outdoors in the garden with other dogs, both male and female, enjoys regular walks, and even went camping with his favourite volunteer – and he did absolutely amazing! But despite all the progress he’s made, Gru still lives in a shelter. He still spends most hours of every day alone in his cage, waiting. Waiting for someone to see him for who he really is – a gentle, loyal dog who just wants love and a home of his own.Gru has waited long enough. Please, give him the chance he deserves.
