King arrived at Los Barrios pound in July 2025 and was about 3 years old on arrival. He is a gorgeous Belgian Shepherd that was found presumably abandoned on the streets and taken to the pound.King is a stunning Belgian Shepherd of around 3 years old who has recently arrived at the pound. While we are still getting to know him, it is already clear that he is a truly exceptional dog.King gets along well with both male and female dogs and is currently sharing a patio with other dogs without any issues. On the lead, King is one of the gentlest dogs we have met. A light touch on the harness is enough for him to slow down or check in with his handler. He shows curiosity towards other dogs but does not insist on interaction, and he responds calmly even when faced with barking or challenging behaviour from other dogs. During a recent walk, he ignored passing horses and cars, preferring instead to enjoy his surroundings and take his time sniffing.King enjoys cuddles but is not overly demanding of attention. He is very well-mannered—one gentle “no” is enough for him to understand. He allowed a full grooming session, including checking his teeth, without any issues. The most “intrusive” thing he did was rest his nose under the volunteer’s arm in an affectionate gesture. He shows no signs of fear or reactivity and has a calm, steady nature that would make him a wonderful companion. While his breed might suggest a high-energy lifestyle, King appears to have a more relaxed temperament.🐾 King – Foster Update January 2026 🐾King went into foster care in November 2025, joining a wonderful foster family with other dogs. After a few months in a home environment, this update is based on feedback from his foster family, who know him best in everyday life — and they’re happy to report that King is doing incredibly well and is more than ready to be adopted.“According to his foster, King is an extremely social and easygoing dog who gets along beautifully with all dogs. He loves to play — chasing, gentle play-fighting, and general dog fun — but he is also very respectful and will stop immediately if the other dog isn’t interested. Living with another friendly dog really helps him feel relaxed and settled. His foster tells us that King is a joy to have at home. He is fully house-trained, has never had an accident indoors, and comfortably goes through the night (up to 12 hours). If he needs to go out, he will clearly let you know. He is happy resting in his bed and settles well indoors. While he has plenty of energy during playtime, he is calm and relaxed at home — very much a sofa-and-chill kind of dog.The foster family shares that King doesn’t enjoy being completely alone and may whine a little, but having another dog in the same room is enough to keep him happy. He truly thrives on company and shared time with his people. They also tell us that King is very clever and loves learning. He’s currently working on basic training with his foster and is described as a star who picks things up quickly.Like many young dogs, King has a mischievous side. His foster mentions that he may occasionally steal a shoe or food left on the counter, and he’s only just beginning to show interest in toys. He can still be a little protective when eating his meals near other dogs, but has no issues taking treats around them. They describe King as a dog who loves absolutely everyone and could be cuddled all day. If he wants affection, he’ll politely sit in front of you. He would also be fine with older, dog-friendly children.💙 Ideal home (as recommended by his foster family):A home with some dog experience, a calm and patient approach, plenty of time together, and ideally another friendly dog or dogs. An active home that also enjoys relaxing and quiet time would suit him perfectly.King has shown just how wonderful he is in foster care — now he’s ready to take the next step and find his forever home.”King truly deserves a loving and caring home where he can thrive. Life in a cage is no place for such a gentle soul, and we hope to find his forever family very soon.
