Simba arrived at Los Barrios pound in June 2025 and was about 12 months old on arrival. He is a gorgeous Malinois that was found presumably abandoned on the streets and taken to the pound.Simba – our beautiful young dog đŸŸSimba is a stunning young Malinois, only about a year old when he arrived at the pound. He is a sweet and affectionate boy who loves human attention and responds with endless warmth and love.Full of life, Simba enjoys his daily outings and loves going for walks. He is confident and curious, and doesn’t seem bothered by other dogs passing by, people, cars, or motorbikes. He can be a bit strong on the lead and, if he gets excited, he may jump up or try to chew the lead. However, if you stay calm, he quickly settles down. One of Simba’s greatest joys is visiting the river—he loves having a dip and then just sitting to watch the water. Playful and gentle, he gets along very well with both male and female dogs and shows his friendly, happy character every time he’s outside.Unfortunately, Simba currently spends over 23 hours a day in a small cage, which is no life for such a young and lively Malinois. He needs a loving home where he can finally stretch his legs, enjoy long walks, and receive the exercise and mental stimulation he deserves.Simba would make a wonderful companion for an active family or person ready to share their life with this affectionate, spirited Malinois. He has so much love to give—all he needs is the chance. 💛In early November, Simba moved into a foster home because he was struggling emotionally at the pound. After a month in foster care, the family has shared the following observations:“Simba behaves very well in the home. He may occasionally try to chew on things he shouldn’t, but this is easily redirected with appropriate toys. At times, he can become mouthy with hands when you sit with him, or he may become overly excited if not guided calmly. He needs gentle, steady handling and should not be allowed to escalate through frustration, as patience and consistency will help him grow into a well-balanced dog.He has lived peacefully with two older female dogs and remained calm around them. He has also been around children and is not aggressive, but his play can be a bit strong or spontaneous, so contact with younger children should be supervised and introduced gradually. He is best suited to living or interacting closely with children around 15 years or older. On walks, Simba pulls when there are distractions. If he is stressed , he may try to chase bicycles, or footballs. However, his foster family has already seen improvement, and with continued training he can progress further. On leash, he can become anxious around other dogs, but off leash he is playful and friendly. His recall is improving steadily, though he still needs practice, especially in distracting environments. He travels exceptionally well in the car, remaining calm on any route and over any distance.Simba is an incredibly friendly young dog who simply missed the chance to develop in a stable environment. With time, dedication, and patience, he will become a responsive companion. He is very loyal, and after only a few days in foster care he was able to walk off leash in safe areas because he stayed close. He loves playing fetch and enjoys both frisbees and balls.”Soon he will have to return to the pound, and we truly hope to find him a home before that happens.
