Frankfurt arrived at Los Barrios pound in July 2022 and was about 4 years old on arrival. He is a gorgeous malinois that was found presumably abandoned in the streets and brought to the pound.Frankfurt, a handsome Malinois, shares a cage with other dogs, and during the day he goes out on the patio with dogs from other cages too. When they are out on the patio, he isn’t demanding to get your attention, even though he would really like some, he just lets the other dogs get in front of him.The stressful, crowded and noisy environment of the pound has taken a toll on him, leading to stress and repetitive behaviors like walking in circles. This constant stress has also caused him to become wary of certain people.Despite his struggles, Frankfurt shines during walks outside the pound and it's been really beneficial for him! Once he's out of the pound, he becomes calmer and walks well on the leash. He doesn't seem bothered by a few passing cars, people, dogs, or even horses. He's always happy to pause for a cuddle. Plus, he knows basic commands like sit, down, and shake paw, and he's a quick learner - such a smart boy!In January 2024, Frankfurt spent about a week in a foster home due to flooding at the pound. His foster foster mum reported that he adapted well to apartment living, displaying calm and well-behaved behavior. He seldom barked, showed no destructive tendencies, and got along well with dogs of all sizes in the household. However, during walks in the town, he exhibited some fear towards bikes and certain men.Frankfurt desperately needs a special person, as he can have a strong personality in certain situations. Someone experienced with Malinois. Someone patient and kind. A home without children. A place where he can finally rest, decompress, and feel safe. He doesn’t need perfection – just someone willing to give him a chance.It breaks our hearts to see him, day after day, in that horrible, tiny cage, growing more and more stressed…
