Norte arrived at Los Barrios pound in July 2025 and was about 2 years old on arrival. He is a gorgeous Malinois that was found presumably abandoned on the streets and taken to the pound. Norte – A Young Malinois with a Big Heart… Norte is a handsome male Malinois, approximately two years old. He is a sweet and affectionate young dog who absolutely loves people. Social by nature, Norte gets along well with both male and female dogs, making him a wonderful companion in a multi-dog household.Unfortunately, life at the pound is far from ideal for an active and intelligent dog like Norte. He currently spends more than 23 hours a day in a small kennel, which is far from the life he deserves. Norte needs space to stretch his legs, explore, and engage in the mental stimulation that Malinois thrive on.Update November 2025Norte was recently chosen to join a little trip to the local town together with Sabina, another Malinois he had never met before. They did wonderfully together from the very first moment.Norte jumped straight into the car, settled comfortably on the back seat with one of our volunteers, and travelled calmly. In town he was simply fantastic. He took everything in his stride — people walking past, cars, buses, and even loose dogs approaching him. Through it all he stayed relaxed, friendly, and very focused on the person walking him.He loved taking short breaks for a treat and a bit of affection, and his gentle, cooperative nature shone through the whole time. When it was time to go back, he hopped into the car again without a second thought. Returning to the pound, he hesitated briefly before going inside, which is completely understandable after such a lovely outing, but he handled it beautifully. This trip showed once again what a wonderful dog Norte is: adaptable, kind, attentive, and ready to be part of someone’s life. He truly deserves a loving home.He has so much potential and just needs the right environment where he can flourish. If you think you can offer Norte the loving home and fulfilling life he needs, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.In December, Norte was fortunate to move into a wonderful foster home. Life at the pound was very challenging for him, as he was struggling with the stress of spending more than 23½ hours a day in a cage.In the foster home, Norte is doing so well. He lives alongside many other dogs – both small and large, males and females.Norte is now enjoying a more balanced daily life, but he is still looking for his forever home where he can settle permanently and continue to thrive.Let’s help Norte find the freedom and care he’s been waiting for.
