Date of Birth: 4/11/2022

Pirata arrived at Los Barrios pound in January 2024 and was about 5-6 years old on arrival. He is a gorgeous American Staffordshire Terrier that was found handed in.This stunning big dog is so sweet, he is huge, but so gentle and obedient. He loves human company and he walks well on the lead, he does not seem bothered by anything. He has not yet been tested with other dogs, but on walks and when he is out on the patio, he does not show any interest in other dogs.Pirata lives in a cage on his own, he looks so sad sitting there behind the bars looking out... maybe he is missing his owner or maybe just some human company. We can't imagine how it must feel like for these poor dogs, ending up in a tiny damp cage all alone... It is just heartbreaking!Pirata – Update March 2025:Due to the risk of flooding at the pound, Pirata was transferred to another shelter, where he has been settling in well. They have sent us these kind words about him:Pirata walks excellently on the leash, calmly continuing his way without bothering strangers or people he meets. This is great because, given his size, an overly enthusiastic greeting could intimidate some, but he simply enjoys his walk, relaxed and sniffing his surroundings. He has no issues wearing a harness or collar, and if you get too close while putting them on, you might just get a kiss!He happily takes his CBD and vitamin drops, even opening his mouth for them. However, when snacks are involved, he can get a bit mouthy, so he will need to learn to take treats more gently, especially around inexperienced people or young children.Walking with Pirata is truly a ZEN experience. He stays calm, even when other dogs growl at him. He only reacts when another dog persistently ignores his signals and keeps pushing boundaries—at that point, he will clearly tell them to back off and then continue with his sniffing.Baby Buttercup, we love him! 🫶🏻But despite this glimpse of hope, Pirata is still living alone in a small cage at a crowded shelter.Pirata deserves so much more. He needs you. He needs a home of his own, where he can feel safe, loved, and truly cared for. Please help us find that special place for Pirata.
