Species: Dog

Gender: Male

Castrated: No

Breed: Crossbreed

Date of Birth: 11/30/2021

Cow arrived at Los Barrios pound in May 2023 and was about 1,5 years old on arrival. He is a gorgeous Cross breed that was found with another male dog in the streets and brought to the pound.Poor Cow was quite fearful during his first couple of months at the pound, struggling to trust people. His past remains a mystery – whether he's endured mistreatment or lacks socialization. After spending some months at the pound, Cow is showing signs of improvement. He now shares a cage with other dogs and goes out onto the patio with dogs from other cages. His confidence is slowly growing, and he approaches familiar volunteers for treats and affection.Cow has started going for walks, which has further boosted his confidence. It's truly rewarding to witness his progress and increasing well-being. However, due to the lack of time and volunteers, Cow does not get the consistent help he needs to fully overcome his fears.Cow needs an owner with experience handling timid dogs, someone who has patience and can provide a calm home. If you can offer Cow the love and understanding he needs to continue growing and thriving, you will be rewarded with the loyalty and affection of a special dog. Please consider giving Cow the home he deserves.Update on Cow – May 2025"In March, due to the risk of flooding from heavy rain, Cow was moved from the pound to a private kennel, where he still is. Luckily, a volunteers, who is also a professional dog trainer, lives nearby. She has been regularly visiting Cow, taking him out for walks, and working with him to build confidence and social skills. At the pound, Cow was always timid and wary of people. However, the trainer has noticed significant progress. Once Cow gets to know you—usually after just one or two meetings—he becomes trusting and even enjoys cuddles. On walks, he has shown no issues with passing people, children, or even cats, and remains calm around them. Although sudden loud noises can still startle him. When he is off-lead he is great with other dogs and generally stays close to the volunteer, never wandering far. Cow is also showing great behavior when it comes to sharing food and toys. Overall, he is thriving outside the pound environment, which has given him the time and space to come out of his shell. This is exactly the opportunity Cow needed, as the pound simply doesn’t have the resources to support a dog with his needs."Update – November 2025It is truly heart-warming to see how much Cow has improved over the past nine months in the private kennel, thanks to a dog trainer. He is now comfortable travelling in the car, walking through town, and even visiting a quiet café, showing calmness and growing confidence in different environments. Cow is also relaxed around children and happily accepts cuddles from them.He thoroughly enjoys his off-lead time in the countryside or on the beach, where he runs and plays with great enthusiasm. He interacts beautifully with all dogs he meets, whether they are small or large, puppies or adults.Cow can still be a little timid with new people, but with those he knows, he is a loving, playful and well-adjusted dog who is now ready to find his forever home. Although he is safe in the private paid kennel, he lives alone, and despite it being far better than the pound, it is still a sad and lonely life for him. We would truly love to find him a foster home—or even better, a forever family. An added bonus is that Cow’s trainer has offered ongoing support to his future family. If Cow is adopted near Tarifa, she is happy to continue in-person training and guidance. If adopted further away, she will remain available by phone and may even visit once or twice to help him settle in.This is a unique opportunity to give Cow the loving home he deserves, along with continued professional support. Please take a look at his latest videos to see how well he is doing.
