Turko arrived at Los Barrios pound in April 2021 and was about 7 years old on arrival. He is a gorgeous American Staffordshire Terrier that was handed in by his owner...Turko has spent too many years alone in a small cage, a heartbreaking situation for such a gentle and affectionate dog. When he first arrived, Turko was bewildered and scared, surrounded by unfamiliar barking dogs and strangers. Over time, he has settled into his new environment, but the sadness in his eyes remains.Despite his circumstances, Turko's loving nature shines through. He adores people and craves cuddles and any attention he can get. He's excellent on the lead during walks and even enjoys car rides, likely hoping each time that he's finally being taken to a forever home rather than back to his small, lonely cage.At 10 years old, Turko is a senior dog who deserves to spend his remaining years in a loving, peaceful environment. The pound is no place for him, especially as he continues to wait day after day, hoping for someone to come and rescue him. Please don’t let Turko spend any more time alone and sad. Make an appointment to meet this wonderful boy and see if he could be the perfect addition to your family. Turko is ready to give all his love to someone who can give him the care and comfort he so desperately needs.Update on Turko 🐾In December 2022, after 1½ years in the stressful environment of the pound, Turko was lucky to get a place at a smaller and quieter shelter. Life there is less chaotic – the cages are bigger, and the dogs receive more individual attention. This change has made a real difference for Turko, who deeply craves human contact and connection. His eyes are full of love and gratitude – he truly has so much affection to give. Turko is one of the most affectionate dogs at the shelter. Every time he is let out of his cage, he spends the entire time by the volunteers' side, soaking up every cuddle and bit of attention he can get.At the new shelter, Turko occasionally gets to go on little adventures. On one occasion, he visited a lovely park with another male dog from the shelter, and he thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Senior dogs like Turko may not need intense exercise, but they still appreciate exploring new places and being part of life outside the shelter walls. He has also been to the beach, where he went for a little dip, and afterward, he joined the volunteers at a café. He lay calmly under the table and even greeted a few children with his usual gentle nature. He travels well in the car, too! But… most days, Turko is still locked away in a cage for up to 22 hours – waiting, hoping, and growing lonelier with time. He watches the world go by through metal bars, dreaming of something better. A gentle touch. Someone to love. A home of his own...It breaks our hearts to see such a kind and loving soul spend his days in silence and solitude. Please… if you have space in your heart and home for a senior dog who just wants to be close to someone, give Turko the chance to finally feel safe, cherished, and truly at home.
