Alberto – Four Years Behind Bars and Still Waiting 💔Alberto arrived at the Los Barrios pound in November 2021. He was around four years old at the time – a beautiful American Staffordshire Terrier crossbreed, likely abandoned and found wandering the streets alone. From the beginning, Alberto has shown himself to be a sweet, affectionate, and gentle dog. He loves human company, enjoys cuddles, and is happiest when he’s out on a walk, exploring the world through his nose. On hot days, nothing beats a splash in the river – Alberto adores water. In December 2022, heavy flooding at the pound meant some of our dogs had to be moved into temporary foster care. Alberto was one of the lucky ones. His foster family quickly fell in love with him. He lived peacefully with a female dog, adored the two babies in the home, and was calm, loving, and grateful. They described him as “wonderful in every way” – but sadly, they were unable to adopt him permanently.Coming back to the pound was devastating for Alberto. He had tasted the warmth and comfort of a home – and lost it again. He became deeply withdrawn, spending long hours alone in his tiny cage. From time to time, Alberto has shared his daily break in the patio with a female companion. He lights up with joy when he has a friend to play with. He’s especially fond of female dogs and enjoys gentle wrestling, running around the patio, and cooling off in the paddling pool between play sessions. But one by one, they’ve all been adopted… and Alberto is left behind, over and over again. Now, in 2025, Alberto has spent four long years at the pound. That’s four years behind bars. Four years of loneliness, stress, and waiting. It’s heartbreaking – because he is such a good boy. Loving, loyal, and still full of hope. Four years — that is half of his life... wasted. At least now he is no longer completely alone. He has a new girlfriend with whom he shares his cage, and the company seems to bring him some comfort. But still… after everything he has endured, he deserves so much more than this.We don’t understand why no one has chosen him yet. He has so much love to give — and he deserves someone to love him back. Please come and meet Alberto. Share his story. Help us find the forever family he’s been waiting for all these years.📌 Four years in a cage is four years too long.
