Chauen arrived at Los Barrios pound in September 2023 and was about 1 year old on arrival. He is a gorgeous Malinois cross breed that was found presumably abandoned in the streets and brought to the pound.Chauen – Two Years Behind Bars, Still Full of HopeChauen arrived at the pound as a young, energetic dog of about one year old. He has now spent two years living in a small cage – far too long for a dog with so much love and life to give. Despite these difficult conditions, Chauen’s spirit remains bright and hopeful. Still, the loneliness shows in his eyes, and recently we have begun to notice signs of stereotypical behavior caused by the stress of long-term confinement. At first, Chauen shared his space with other dogs and enjoyed spending time on the patio in their company. Over time, the others were adopted, and Chauen was left behind. Prolonged stress has made him a little tense around some unfamiliar dogs, and he now goes out alone and lives without a cage mate. His days are long and quiet, with more than 23 hours spent behind bars, just like most dogs at the pound. Only a few, including Chauen, are fortunate enough to go out for occasional walks.Chauen is one of the lucky ones – he now enjoys regular walks a few times a week, which he absolutely loves. These outings are the highlight of his days, giving him the chance to explore the world beyond the pound. Sometimes, he shares these walks with other dogs. He especially enjoys going out with Yogurin, another young, playful male. Together they run in the fields, splash in the river, and play happily – moments of freedom and joy far from the noise and stress of the pound. This also shows that Chauen can get along with other dogs once he is outside the stressful environment of the pound. On walks, Chauen’s curiosity and enthusiasm shine through. He’s eager to take in every new sight and scent, and although he sometimes pulls on the lead, he responds well to his name and to treats – a clear sign of his intelligence and willingness to learn. He copes well with passing cars and other dogs, showing a balanced and adaptable nature. What truly makes Chauen special is his love for people. He is affectionate and clearly craves human connection. His soulful eyes seem to ask for what he has been missing – a family of his own.Chauen deserves more than a life behind bars. He needs a home where he can run, play, and feel the sun on his fur. He is ready for a patient, loving family who will give him regular exercise, guidance, and the attention he has been longing for.If you are looking for a devoted companion with a zest for life, Chauen may be the perfect match. Come meet him, take him for a walk, and see the bright spirit that has been waiting behind those bars for far too long. Perhaps he has been waiting for you.
