Melendi arrived at Los Barrios pound in November 2025 and was about 1.5 years old on arrival. He is a gorgeous German Shepherd that was found presumably abandoned on the streets and taken to the pound.Melendi is a stunning young Shepherd cross who arrived at the pound in November 2025, where he was estimated to be around one and a half years old.We have been told that Melendi has lived with other dogs in the past. At the pound, he has now been integrated with a female Malinois, Sabina, and they currently share the space.When Melendi does get the chance to go out, he very much enjoys his walks, although these unfortunately happen far too rarely due to a lack of volunteers. On the lead he can be a little strong at times, but not throughout the entire walk. This is most likely linked to the stress and frustration of living in a cage, as once outside he is eager to enjoy some freedom. He has also been walked with three other large male dogs, and this went absolutely fine.Melendi was not bothered by passing cars or people. When a horse passed by, he did bark and initially tried to move away, which suggests he may have been unsure or frightened by the unfamiliar situation. He is very food motivated, happily sits for treats, and also enjoys a few gentle cuddles.Like many Shepherd-type dogs at the pound, Melendi is struggling with being confined to a cage for more than 23½ hours a day. This level of restriction is extremely hard on an active, intelligent young dog and is clearly not doing him any good.This handsome young boy truly deserves a home of his own, where he can leave life at the pound behind and begin to relax and decompress. Melendi would do best with a family who has experience with larger breeds and can offer him the time, structure, and understanding he needs to thrive.
