Sabina arrived at Los Barrios pound in November 2023 and was about 1,5 years old on arrival. She is a gorgeous Malinois that was found presumably abandoned in the streets and brought to the pound.Sabina – now approx. 3 years old..At the pound since November 2023 💔Sabina is a stunning Malinois who has now spent over a year and a half at the Los Barrios pound. She arrived alongside her companion Neron, with whom she shared a cage until he was recently adopted. Since then, she has formed a new friendship with another calm and friendly Malinois, Agus, and the two get along very well. In fact, Agus reminds us a lot of Neron – both in looks and in temperament – and Sabina has bonded closely with him.Sabina spends more than 23½ hours a day in a small cage, with only a short daily break on the patio. If she’s lucky, and there are enough volunteers, she is chosen for a walk — something she truly enjoys. Despite the stressful and monotonous environment, Sabina has matured beautifully. She is more settled now, still energetic but noticeably calmer and more affectionate than when she first arrived. She actively seeks out human contact and enjoys cuddles and attention. She walks well on the lead and is not disturbed by traffic, people, or other dogs. She may show some curiosity around cats, so careful introductions would be recommended. She is generally sociable with dogs that have a calm and balanced nature, but she is not compatible with all dogs and may show a stronger character when paired with others with similarly strong personalities. Proper introductions are essential, and she thrives best in well-matched company.Update November 2025Sabina was recently chosen for a little trip to the local town together with another Malinois, Norte, whom she had never met before. They got along beautifully from the very beginning. At first, Sabina hesitated when it was time to get into the car. She was unsure about it and needed a moment, but with a few treats and gentle encouragement she finally decided to jump in. After more than two years at the pound without leaving the grounds or the surrounding area, it was completely understandable that the car felt unfamiliar to her.Once they arrived in town, Sabina surprised everyone. She jumped out confidently and walked around as if she had been there many times before. She took in all the new impressions with curiosity and enthusiasm. She pulled on the lead a little, simply because she wanted to explore everything happening around her.Sabina handled the traffic well, stayed calm when people passed by, and reacted kindly to other dogs. Even when a large female dog suddenly came running right up to her, Sabina responded with gentle friendliness and just wanted to play. She loved taking short breaks for cuddles and treats — she truly is such a wonderful girl.On the way back, she climbed into the back seat without hesitation, settled down comfortably, and travelled calmly all the way to the pound. This beautiful girl has spent more than two years in a tiny cage, and yet she continues to show such sweetness, courage, and joy. She did amazingly well on her outing, and she truly deserves her chance to finally find a loving home. We honestly do not understand why she is still waiting. This loyal and intelligent girl would do best in a home with experience of the breed, where she can receive the structure, mental stimulation, and companionship she needs. Sabina is more than ready for her chance – just like her dear friend Neron got.
