Brave arrived at Los Barrios pound in May 2024 and was about 2 years old on arrival. She is a malinois that was found presumably abandoned in the streets and brought to the pound.Brave – A Remarkable Journey of TransformationBrave, now three and a half years old, has shown remarkable development during her time at the pound. She arrived in May 2024 as a young Malinois who struggled intensely with the environment. Living in a small cage for long periods has been very difficult for her, and after more than a year and a half at the pound, the stress is still overwhelming. She is truly desperate for a real home.Despite this, Brave has made impressive progress with the people she knows well. With those she trusts, she is a sweet, affectionate dog who loves curling up on your lap, enjoying hugs, and giving kisses. She shares a small cage with Leo without any issues, and they also spend time together on the patio. On walks, Brave handles the world around her well. She may pull a little due to her limited opportunities to get out, but she is not bothered by passing cars, people, or dogs. She is gaining confidence, learning steadily, and responds beautifully to calm, positive guidance. She loves stopping for a treat or, even better, a good belly rub. If you sit down with her, she will happily throw herself into your arms.Update November 2025Brave recently went on a little trip to the local town together with her penmate, Leo, and she truly surprised us in the best possible way. She jumped into the car without hesitation and travelled calmly in the boot, taking the whole experience with quiet confidence. When they arrived in town, she spent the first moments simply sniffing and taking everything in. After almost two years at the pound — and without leaving the pound or its surroundings for all that time — it was completely understandable that she needed a moment to absorb all the new impressions. And it must have been wonderful for her to finally experience something different. But then Brave showed just how remarkable she is. She handled everything with ease: dogs barking at her, cars passing by, people walking close, even children crying. She didn’t react at all; she simply minded her own business and walked calmly beside the volunteers. At every little break she would stand patiently, happy to continue the walk. When she found a patch of grass, she took her chance to roll around with pure joy. And whenever the volunteers invited her over for a cuddle, she would gently throw herself into their lap and enjoy a lovely belly rub. She walked beautifully on the lead as well. When it was time to return to the car, Brave didn’t want to go back into the boot, so one of the volunteers carried her in. She likely sensed she was on her way back to her tiny, dirty cage at the pound. Still, she travelled calmly on the way home and behaved wonderfully.Brave was truly amazing on this outing. And it showed something very important: she is a completely different dog once she leaves the pound. Inside her cage she is stressed, pacing back and forth, barking, miserable. But outside, she becomes the dog she really is — calm, sweet, gentle, and full of quiet affection. This wonderful girl has been waiting far too long. She deserves a real home where she can finally relax, feel safe, and be the loving dog she has always been.Brave will do best with an experienced owner who understands her breed and can offer patience, structure, and stability. She is best suited to a home without small children. If you can give Brave the safe and loving home she so urgently needs, please reach out. This devoted girl deserves her chance to flourish.
