Cote â Almost 5 Years of Waiting đCote arrived at Los Barrios pound in September 2020, and was about 4 years old on arrival. He is an American Staffordshire Terrier, presumed to have been abandoned in the streets and brought to the pound.Cote is one big happy boyâhe has no idea how big he is when heâs joyfully jumping around. đ He absolutely loves people, loves attention, and lives for cuddles. When you approach his cage, he simply canât stand still; he gets so excited thinking that youâve come to give him a treat or maybe even let him out for a run. He walks beautifully on a lead and doesnât seem bothered by cars, people, or other dogs passing by.But as the months passed, Cote began to struggle more and more with life in the pound. Spending over 23 hours a day in a small cage, year after year, was taking a visible toll. He developed severe skin issuesâlikely brought on by stress, dampness, and extreme temperaturesâand no matter how hard the volunteers tried, he just wasnât getting better. Then something amazing happened: a group of kind-hearted people came together and raised money so that Cote could move to a private shelter in 2022 âa place with a little less noise, a little more space, and a chance for healing. And what a difference it made.Coteâs skin improved dramatically, and he finally began to recover. His caregivers at the new shelter describe him as obedient, affectionate, and deeply loving. He adores human company and loves giving and receiving cuddles. He still walks wonderfully on the lead and enjoys every opportunity to stretch his legs.Cote is currently sharing his patio time with a calm female dog, and they get along well. However, heâs selective with male dogs, so we believe he would do best as the only dog, or possibly with a calm female, in a home where his people understand his needs and give him the space to feel safe. Now, itâs been almost five years since Cote was first locked in a kennel. Five years of waiting. Five years of watching other dogs come and go. Heâs a bit older now, but his heart is just as hopeful as ever.Cote deserves more than another winter in a cold kennel. He deserves comfort, security, and love. He deserves a real home. Please consider opening your heart and home to Cote.If you canât adopt, please help us by sharing his story. Somewhere out there is someone who needs him just as much as he needs them.đ No dog should grow old behind bars. Letâs make sure Coteâs final years are his best.
