Funana arrived at Los Barrios pound in July 2025 and was about 4 years old on arrival. She is a gorgeous Malinois that was found presumably abandoned on the streets and taken to the pound.Funana!Funana is a beautiful Malinois who arrived at the pound in July 2025 at four years old. She has a bright personality and lots of energy to share. She is an active and intelligent dog who enjoys spending time with people and currently socializes well with male dogs on the patio during the day.For more than 23 ½ hours a day, Funana is alone in a tiny, dark, damp, and cold cage. This is incredibly stressful for her, and she doesn’t deserve to live like this.Funana absolutely loves going out on walks, but unfortunately this happens very rarely due to the lack of volunteers and so many dogs at the pound. When she finally gets the chance, she is overjoyed and so busy taking in everything around her—it’s like she knows it could be weeks before her next walk, so she wants to experience it all. She is strong on the lead, likely because walks are so rare, but she doesn’t seem bothered by passing cars, motorbikes, people, or other dogs—even dogs barking at her from behind a fence. She is also happy to pause for a cuddle and a few treats. As with most Malinois, Funana would thrive in a home that can offer her regular walks, daily exercise, mental stimulation, and consistent training. She would love a family who has the time to dedicate to her and enjoys building a strong bond. She is truly ready to give her heart to a loving home where she can feel safe, engaged, and part of the family.Update – January 2026:Funana and Polo recently spent a few days in a foster home due to heavy rainfall and the risk of flooding at the pound. They are now back at the pound. The foster family told us that Funana was absolutely adorable with them. However, she appeared quite stressed, likely due to everything that had happened — the heavy rain and flood risk at the pound, and the sudden move into a new environment. For this reason, she had to be kept apart from the foster family’s other dogs.Funana and Polo slept well in the garage on their beds. They only took a towel from a chair where the foster was sitting to include in their bed, and otherwise were quiet and settled. This experience shows that while Funana is great with people, she may need some patience and understanding.
